The bubbles often accompanies the people's life and production, and sometimes we need it, such as flotation, fire, dust, washing, foam ceramics and plastics, etc., however, some occasions it is necessary to eliminate the bubble and foam, ranging from fermentation, coating, paper, printing and dying, oil refining, waste water treatment, etc. Generally speaking, pure water and pure surface active agent does not bubble as a result of their uniform surface and interior is difficult to form an elastic film, even it bubbles, it is not stable and will disappear in an instant. But when the solution has the surface active agent, the bubble formed stable and the hydrophilic group and hydrophobic group is adsorbed on the bubble wall due to the role of intermolecular forces. Within the molecule, the hydrophilic water to the water phase as well as the hydrophobic groups toward the bubble, thus forming an elastic film at the bubble interface that possess strong stability and not easy to rupture feature in the normal condition. The stability of the foam is related to the surface viscosity, elasticity, electric exclusion, the movement of the surface film, temperature, evaporation and other factors. Moreover, the surface tension of the bubble being linked closely with the tension, the smaller the tension, the more prone to bubbles. In the production and life, in many times the bubble will give people a lot of inconvenience, as a result, it must be defoaming.

The polyethers varied from many types. GP type: using the glycerol as the starting agent, and prepared by the polymerization of propylene oxide or the mixture of ethylene oxide and propylene. Such kind of anti-foaming agent, with poor hydrophilcity and small solubility, is suitable in the dilute fermentation liquid. More superiorities has been presented in restrain the foam rather than the defoamer ability, which is suitable to be used in basic medium to inhibit the foam production. In the end of chain of GP type to proceed the addition reaction, we can obtain the GPE defoaming agent, with a series of features, such as good hydrophilicity, easily spreading and defoaming ability, large solubility and short defoaming activity maintenance time, it is better useful in a viscous fermentation liquid. Ending with hydrophobic stearate head and formed at both ends with water chain of GP type, we can get the GPE type fefoaming agent, the structure of molecular flat lying in the gas-liquid interface, and the surface activity as well as the defoaming efficiency is high.

The most common type of silicone is PMDS. Their surface energy is low, the solubility in water and general oil is low but the activity is high. Its main chain is the silicon oxygen bond, which is a non polar molecule. Meanwhile, it is non-compatible with the polar water and in general oil is also exhibits very small affinity. With volatile and chemically inert, it is relatively stable and less toxic. Pure PMDS, which is difficult to be treated as an anti-foam agent without any dispersion, because it has high interfacial tension and water spreading coefficient is low, as a result, it is not easy to disperse in foaming medium. Organosilicon defoamer system with a small amount of water and mechanical emulsification, is prepared by grease, emulsifier, water proofing agent, thickening agent, with small surface tension, high surface activity, strong defoaming ability, less dosage and low cost. Most of the media can bubble foam. It has good stability, and can be used in wide temperature range of 5oC -150oC, it is difficult to react with other substances, so it can be used in acid, alkali, salt solution. Break the running function, belonging to broad-spectrum defoaming agent, is widely used in the production process of detergents, paper, pulp, sugar refining, electroplating, chemical fertilizer, chemicals and waste water treatment etc. In the oil industry, it has been used in a lot of gas desulfurization to accelerate oil and gas separation, aromatic hydrocarbon extraction, lubricant asphalt dewaxing device to control or suppress bubbles. In the textile industry, it is used for dying, refining, sizing, etc. And in the chemical industry, it is used in the synthesis of resin, latex, paint, ink, etc.

The "bubble" process is as follows: when the system is added the defoamer, the molecular disordered and form a wide distribution in the liquid surface, inhibiting the formation of elastic modulus, that is to stop the production of foam. When the system can produce a large amount of foam, adding defoaming agent and its molecular immediately spread to bubble to the surface, rapid spreading, forming very thin bilayers, further diffusion, osmotic, layered intrusion to replace original bubble film thin. Due to its low surface tension, it flows into the high surface tension of foam, so that the low surface tension based foam agent molecules in the gas liquid interface continuously diffusion, penetration, so that the film wall is rapidly thinning, foam at the same time by the surrounding surface tension film strong traction, at the same time, the foam around the stress imbalanced, leading to its "broken bubble". Insoluble of defoaming agent molecules to re - enter another bubble film surface, again, repeat all bubbles and all the destruction.
